Dietrich had seven children (Friedrich, Dedo II, Thimo, Gero, Günther, Willa, Thietburg)no mention here of an Adalbert! It should be noted, though, that there was a strong affiliation between Dietrich's offspring and the Naumburg and Gernrode abbeys which are also associated with Adelbert's daughters, Uta and Hazecha.
From Source 2: Dietrich was a Saxon feudal lord referred to either as Dietrich II (Count of Wettin; from 1015, Count in the Schwabengau; from 1017, Count of Eilenburg and Brehna, Count in the Hassegau and in the Gau Siusili) or as Dietrich I (from 1032 the first margrave of Lausitz).
On Christmas day of 1009, he acquired from King Heinrich II all of his father's fiefs.
Together with his brother-in-law Hermann I, Margrave of Meissen, and the imperial chamberlain Friedrich, Dietrich witnessed the 1018 peace treaty of Bautzen that ended a 16-year war between Heinrich II and King Boleslaw of Poland. Boleslaw's son Mieszko II. however, started another war which Dietrich eventually won in 1030.
On 19 November 1034, Dietrich II was killed by followers of his brother, Margrave Ekkehard II.

From Source 1: Succeeded his father in [1078] as Otto "The Rich" Count of Ballenstedt. Acquired the county of Ascania in [1100]. Appointed Duke of Saxony in 1112 by Emperor Heinrich V in opposition to Lothar of Süpplingenberg, who had rebelled against the emperor. In 1123, he and his son Albrecht converted the abbey of Ballenstedt into a Benedictine monastery.
From Source 2: In the German battle for the throne, he joined the camp of Henry IV and hopes to succeed his father-in-law in Saxony, but when this does not materialize he gives his support to Lotharius of Supplinberg and acquires several areas in the east, such as Zerbst and Salzwedel.
From Source 3: After the death of his father-in-law, Magnus, Duke of Saxony, in 1106, Otto inherited a significant part of Magnus' properties, and hoped to succeed him as duke. However, Lothar of Supplinburg was named duke in his stead. In 1112, after Lothar had been banned, Otto was appointed Duke of Saxony by Emperor Henry V; but in the same year, he came into a dispute with the emperor and was stripped of his ducal title. He then allied himself with Lothar, and helped Lothar defeat Hoyer I, Count of Mansfeld, who, in 1115, had been named Duke of Saxony by the Emperor.
Otto conquered the areas around Zerbst and Salzwedel from the Slavs, and maintained Lothar's support once Lothar became king in 1125. He also claimed the County of Weimar-Orlamünde, which his mother had inherited

Died: 18 Nov. 1170.
Interred: Ballenstedt.

Notes:
From Source 1: He succeeded his father in 1123 as Count of Ballenstedt. Lothar von Süpplingenburg, Duke of Saxony, appointed him lord of the march Lausitz and Margrave of Saxony in 1123, in usurpation of the rights of Emperor Heinrich V who had granted the fief to Wiprecht, Count of Groitsch. Count of the Nordmark, 1128. He was temporarily deprived of his titles, but rehabilated, by the emperor in 1133. He strongly opposed the Welf family in support of Konrad III, King of Germany, who invested him as Albrecht, Duke of Saxony in 1138 after refusing to enfeoff Heinrich "der Stolze" Duke of Bavaria [Welf] with the duchy. After the death of Duke Heinrich, Albrecht hastened to Bremen where on 1 Nov 1139 he attempted to obtain recognition as duke of Saxony but was driven out of the town. He was finally obliged to relinquish his claim to Saxony in 1142, as part of the compromise reached between the Welf family and King Konrad III, and returned to the Nordmark. Pribislav-Heinrich, Prince of the Hevelli, appointed Albrecht his heir in Brandenburg, and he succeeded in 1140 as Albrecht "the Bear", Markgrave of Brandenburg, although he was obliged to defend the territory against Jaxa Prince of Köpenick in 1157. Markgraf of Stade, 1143. He donated property to the convent at Magdeburg, with the consent of his sons Heinrich, Otto, Hermann, Adalbert, Theodoric, and Bernhard, by charter dated 1151. After a lengthy dispute with Heinrich "the Lion" Welf, Duke of Saxony, over the inheritance of the counts of Plötzkau and Hermann of Winzenburg, Friedrich I "Barbarossa", King of Germany assigned the Plötzkauer inheritance to Margrave Albrecht and the Winzenburger inheritance to Duke Heinrich at the diet of Würzburg in Oct. 1153. As Count of Aschersleben, he confirmed a donation to Kloster Ilsenburg by his sons Albert and Theodoric by charter dated 28 Dec 1156. In 1166, he joined the alliance of Saxon princes against Duke Heinrich, attacking the fortress of Althaldensleben 20 Dec 1166 with Ludwig II, Landgrave of Thuringia, and Wichmann, Bishop of Magdeburg. Margrave Albrecht was one of the signatories of the alliance of Magdeburg 12 Jul 1167, which formalised the opposition to Duke Heinrich.
From the other sources: Upon his father's death in 1123, Albrecht, ruled as count of Ballenstedt over the Alcanian properties in the Harz region. He very much wished to expand his possessions and did so by sword as well as by diplomacy. For his services to Lothar, King of the Germans, he was rewarded in 1134 by the investiture of the Northern March. Once firmly established there, Albrecht's covetous eye lay also on the thinly populated lands to the north and east. Three years he was occupied in campaigns against the Slavic Wends, who as pagans were considered fair game, and whose subjugation to Christianity was the aim of the Wendish Crusade of 1147 in which Albert took part. Diplomatic measures were more successful, and by an arrangement made with the last of the Wendish princes of Brandenburg, Pribislav of the Hevelli, Albert secured this district when the prince died in 1150. Taking the title Margrave of Brandenburg, he pressed the "crusade" against the Wends, extended the area of his march, encouraged German migration, established bishoprics under his protection, and so became the founder of the Margraviate of Brandenburg in 1157, which his heirs, the House of Ascania, held until the line died out in 1320.
Albert's personal qualities won for him the cognomen of the Bear, "not from his looks or qualities, for he was a tall handsome man, but from the cognisance on his shield, an able man, had a quick eye as well as a strong hand, and could pick what way was straightest among crooked things, was the shining figure and the great man of the North in his day, got much in the North and kept it, got Brandenburg for one there, a conspicuous country ever since," wrote historian Thomas Carlyle, who called Albert "a restless, much-managing, wide-warring man." Carlyle further wrote, "The Wendish Princes had a taste for German wives; in which just taste the Albert genealogy was extremely willing to indulge them."
Hitler made Albrecht the Bear patron of the Nazi party.

From Source 4: Around 1141, Hardbert. Bishop of Bierum as well as Count of Drenthe, invests his brother Ludolf with the hereditary position of Burgrave of Coevorden. The residence of the freshly minted burgrave is a walled and moated wooden tower on a sandy hill. His realm consists of a collection of huts and small farms to the stronghold's south and a long stretch of land east and west of it. However pitiful it may look to us today, fact is that it was a very important post in the eyes of the rulers of 1141, given to a man of whose fidelity the bishop is assured because of family ties at least as long as the bishop is alive because there will be no heirs.

After being driven away, Volker and Rudolf start afresh, between 1186 and 1191, to repossess the tower. Rudolf is captured, but because Volker manages to seize the stronghold by surprise, capturing Otto's wife and children, Rudolf is released, acknowledged as burgrave of Couvorden, and peace established. From Source 1: De Vries lists two children: Bertolt and Euphemia.
From Source 2: The genealogy by Reinder van Til inserts a generation between Volker and Rudolf II.
From Source 3: The bishops of Utrecht were enfeoffed by the Holy Roman Emperor with lands in, what are now, the Dutch provinces of Groningen, Overijssel and Drenthe. The inhabitants of Drenthe were unhappy about their rights and heavy taxation by the bishops. The local lords of Coevorden in Drenthe, though nominally under the authority of the bishop, began to oppose him. Bishop Otto II of Lippe traveled to this area to call the rebellious province of Drenthe to order, and he had called up many of his warlords to support him together with a couple of warbands supplied by the Bishops of Munster and Cologne. On 28 July 1227, The bishop's army met a large group of rebellious Drenths led by Rudolph of Coevorden met on a field near the present-day village of Ane. The Drenths knew that they did not stand a chance if they faced this army in the field, and they managed to lure the Bishopric army into an area of swampy ground where the horses of the Bishop's army sank into the ground and the knights with their heavy armour were unable to fight effectively. Thus the bishop's forces were beaten by the Drenthe rebel army which was light and used to fighting in this kind of terrain. The bishop was killed.
Otto's successor, Bishop Wilbrand of Oldenburg, captured and murdered Rudolf in 1230. In 1233, he succeeded in suppressing the rebellion and as a pennance the Drenths had to build and maintain a monastery, Sancta Maria de Campe.
Rudolf II had, according to this source, three children: Bertolt of Ansen, Heino Henrikus and Cyse of Ansen.

From Source 2: The name of the place Berum or Bierum derives from his father's name, Alfred the "Bear."
From Sources 3 and 4: Herbert was of lowly descent. On 24 July 1138, he was ordained a bishop. He was quite conscious of the high status of his office, a proud prince of the Church while also a capable warrior, whose looks and words inspired terror in even the most powerful. According to Beka he not only quelched the rebellion in Groningen and defeated the Count of Bentheim who had invaded Drenthe together with Count Diedrich VI of Holland, but also forced the latter to ask, under threat of excommunication, for peace and reconciliation. Under his government, a fire destroyed the city of Utrecht, including the St. Savior Church.
The bishop enfeoffed his older brother Ludolf as prefect of Groningen. His younger brother Leffart acquired the Coevorden castle in southeastern Drenthe and thereby control over the only road through the Bourtanger swamp from Drenthe to Germany. Favoring thus his relatives, he sowed the seeds for the subsequent loss of Drenthe to the diocese of Utrecht.

He was married three times, but remained without children.

The Annalista Saxo names "Ottonem comitem et Sigefridum palatinum comitem" as sons of Adalbert and his wife Adelheid[137]. He was adopted by his stepfather Pfalzgraf Heinrich von Laach[138], whom he succeeded in 1095 as SIEGFRIED Pfalzgraf von Lothringen. "Sygefridus privignus meus…" subscribed the charter dated 1093 under which "Heinricus…comes palatinus Rheni et dominus de Lacu…uxore mei Adleide" founded the abbey of Laach[139]. Vogt of Trier Cathedral in 1097. Vogt of Springirsbach and Maria Laach. He founded Kloster Herrenbreitungen in 1112[140]. He succeeded as Graf von Orlamünde, presumably on the death of his mother in 1100. The Annales Corbeienses record that "Sifridus palatinus" was killed in 1113.

The word "protector" may not mean what one would like to think it to mean. Writes Brian Tierney in The Crisis of Church and State 10501300, p. 24, that when the empire that Charlemagne built fell apart under his grandsons, a few saw this as an opportunity "for acquiring wealth and power by the exercise of brute force. All previously established institutions suffered, not least the Church. In every part of Europe, ecclasiastical lands and offices fell under the control of lay lords.... A petty lord regarded the village and its lands as a part of his estates, the priest as an estate servant like one of his stewards, to be appointed at will. A greater nobel, greedy for the vast lands of some local abbey, would set himself up as its "protector" and assume the right to appoint its abbot. The complex of estates belonging to the abbey then became just one more fief rendering services to the lord and subject to his rule."
